We decided a long long time ago to get into dairy goats simply because of our 2nd to the youngest being extremely sensitive to cows milk and our pediatrician had ask us to explore our options with goat milk, soy milk, rice milk etc-- We purchased our first 2 dairy goats for a very cheap price and learned the hard way? Dr. Learance, a country vet around here at the time, blood tested them and to our sadness, they had all sorts of things going on :( They had CL, CAE and more- So we decided with the vet's advice to either "manage the options" or put them down-
Needless to say we learned that doing your homework and finding good stock is well worth the $$- You get what you pay for?
Not every purchase will be perfect and you end up culling what you don't want or need. Improving breeds of any kind takes much time in fact years- BUT..there is satifaction in this- you have a (product) so to speak that many will love to have-
